Enzyme Education
Completely Vegetarian Source
All of the Theramedix enzymes are from either plant or plant based sources (such as from fungal and bacterial cultures). We use no glandular enzymes in our products for a number of reasons. Plant based enzymes are useful in developing and maintaining a proper digestive system and in allowing the body to produce more metabolic enzymes by reducing the need to produce digestive enzymes.* They can also be used for supporting health and various structures and functions of the body.* Glandular enzymes are better suited for specific treatment purposes rather than in enzyme maintenance programs.

To simplify our understanding, we can think of enzymes that our bodies use as being one of three groups; food enzymes, digestive enzymes, and metabolic enzymes. Theramedix enzymes suit all of these purposes. Futhermore, the enzymes sold in stores may be thought of as being from one of three main catagories: plant based (protease, lipase, amylase, cellulase, invertase, maltase, lactase, etc.); those coming strictly from plants (bromelain and papain); and glandular or animal enzymes (pancreatin, trypsin, chymotrypsin, pepsin, and ox bile). See Figure below for a basic comparison among the main enzyme product categories. Theramedix enzymes only come from strictly plant or plant-based sources, so they are of the highest availability enzymes available and there are no animal-derived enzymes present in our products. In addition we use 100% vegetarian capsules, and have no fillers.
